The Karwendel Valleys, a chain of deeply cut valleys and high towering peaks, are part of the northern Limestone Alps ridge. Here, steep, forested slopes crowd up to the shores of the lake, which stretches like a long finger through the mountain range. The landscape is characterized by the massive presence of the limestone giants, which filter the sunlight and plunge the valleys into deep shadows.
