The List-West Sylt Lighthouse stands on a wide dune and overlooks the island's northwestern tip. A feeling of open expanse surrounds the place, while the gaze sweeps unhindered over the barren, dune-grass-covered landscape.

The surroundings are characterized by the gentle, wind-shaped elevations of the dune chain, which extends to the sea. Here on the Ellenbogen, Sylt's northernmost point, one feels the ocean's proximity, even if it is not directly visible – the wide sky canopy reflects the maritime atmosphere.
