Hechtsee is nestled in the forested hills of the Bavarian-Tyrolean border region, south of Kufstein. It is a natural mountain lake that spreads out in a hollow between gentle, densely mixed-forested elevations.

The lake is surrounded by a shore path that opens up changing perspectives on the forested slopes and the water surface. The shoreline varies between flat accesses and steeper sections where the forest directly borders the water. This topographical diversity allows for different lines of sight to the surrounding landscape.

The geometry of the lake and the orientation of the hills create natural layering levels. The hill ranges in the background rise in several rows and often interlock like backdrops, which enhances the depth effect of the scenery. The forestation decisively shapes the character of the place, as it covers the hills down to the water.
