Madonna della Corona is a pilgrimage site that clings to the rock face of Monte Baldo in the Venetian Alps. The complex nestles against a vertical limestone wall at an altitude of approximately 775 meters, above the Etsch Valley. The site is only accessible via a steep footpath or a staircase that winds through the rock.
The journey and ascent are demanding; especially in the summer months, the heat can make the path difficult. The site is heavily frequented, which often disturbs quiet contemplation; the narrow paths and viewpoints are then overcrowded. Many visitors underestimate the physical exertion required for the visit.
Those seeking a quiet, contemplative atmosphere here are usually disappointed. The site thrives on its extreme location, but this quickly loses its effect due to the stream of visitors and the infrastructure for mass tourism. The true dimension of the rock faces only reveals itself when one detaches one's gaze from the pilgrimage site and perceives the entire valley structure.
