The Old Lakeside Road runs along the eastern shore of Achensee in Tyrol and cuts into the steep slopes of the Karwendel Mountains. Here, the rugged limestone dominates, falling directly into the clear, deep water of the lake. The road itself is a narrow cut that winds between the rock face and the lakeshore.

The view opens southward over the lake, framed by the forested flanks of the Rofangebirge on the east side and the steeply rising walls of the Karwendel in the west. The topography forces the road into an exposed position, creating a direct visual connection to the water, while the high rock walls form the background.
