The Fanal is an ancient laurel forest on Madeira, where ancient trees watch over the wide grassy hills. Here, on the overgrown slopes, the landscape appears pristine and rugged. Distinctively shaped trees stand isolated on the gently rising terrain. The view expands over the meadows and groups of trees to a high horizon. The character of the place is shaped by the curved tree forms and the vastness of the mountain landscape.

Access: The forest is accessible via the Vereda do Fanal, it is located in the northwest of the island.
