Lake Braies lies in a valley basin of the Pragser Dolomites, surrounded by steeply rising mountain flanks that reflect in the lake. The scenery is dominated by the Seekofel, whose massive walls limit the western horizon. Dense coniferous forests line the shores and enhance the deep green to azure blue coloration of the water.

The lake is a closed water surface that captures the surrounding mountains as a reflection. The vertical dimensions of the rock faces meet the horizontal tranquility of the lake. This contrast creates a visual symmetry that characterizes the place.
