The Öxltal, a side valley of the Zillertal, extends as a high-alpine cirque in the Tuxer Alps. It is characterized by steep flanks and a harsh high-mountain climate that only allows sparse vegetation. The valley floor rises continuously, bordered by rocky ridges that enclose the basin.
Accessibility is severely restricted seasonally. Outside the short summer months, the path is continuously covered with old snow, which makes the ascent a physical challenge and requires special equipment. Those who are here in winter must prepare for changeable conditions and the remoteness.
The charm of the Öxltal lies in its barrenness and the vastness of the alpine landscape, which only slowly reveals itself. One must embark on a long hike to grasp the dimensions of the valley. Those looking for a quick reward or easy views will be disappointed here.
