The plain stretches far before the hills of the Swabian Jura, which here stand out as a steep edge. On one of these isolated outlier mountains rises Hohenzollern Castle, towering above the treetops, a widely visible landmark. Its striking silhouette shapes the image of the region, which is characterized by the wide distant view and the prominent mountain ranges.

Below the castle, the mountain gently slopes with wooded hillsides before the open landscape of the Alb foreland spreads out. The view extends unimpeded over fields and smaller villages, which lie like dots in the distance. The exposed location allows for a comprehensive orientation over the surrounding topography.
