The Charles Martel Bridge spans the Cèze with its massive stone arches and harmoniously blends into the wooded river landscape, as if it were a natural part of the valley. The wide waters of the Cèze nestle against the bridge piers, and in the background rise the densely overgrown slopes, which give the river course a protected frame. There, where the Cèze flows over the Cascades of Sautadet in the town of La Roque-sur-Cèze, it appears wild and impressive, while at the bridge it unfolds a rather calm, but majestic presence.
