A deep bay, framed by steep slopes, forms a sheltered natural harbor, at whose inner end the picturesque Portofino nestles closely against the shore. The colorful houses rise in terraces directly from the water and follow the ascent of the coast, which here is wooded and built with individual, spacious villas. The rocky shore falls steeply to the sea from three sides, thus forming a natural basin that opens only to the northwest to the open sea. The narrow location between the overgrown rocks and the calm water gives the place an intimate atmosphere.
