Stromboli rises as a dark silhouette from the sea, a constantly breathing giant in the Tyrrhenian Sea. On its flank, where the island steeply drops, lies the Sciara del Fuoco, a wide, pitch-black channel of loose rock and cooled lava. Here, when observing the Sciara del Fuoco from the ship, the raw natural power of the volcano unfolds as the glowing material rolls down the slope and disappears as a fiery river into the sea. The landscape is characterized by this continuous becoming and passing away, a place where the earth reveals its inner glow unveiled. Over centuries, the volcano has drawn its own shape, always in interplay with the elements.
