The Eggishorn in the Bernese Alps overlooks the Aletsch Glacier, the largest ice stream in the Alps. Here, one lies directly on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Jungfrau-Aletsch, a landscape shaped by the force of alpine glaciation. The view extends over the massive ice surface, which winds in a wide arc through the valley, and the surrounding three-thousander peaks.
The view from the Eggishorn shows the sheer dimension of the glacier and its moraines, which stretch as dark bands through the ice. The mighty rock walls on both sides of the glacier form a U-shaped valley, illustrating the erosive power of the ice over millennia. It is the vastness and geological clarity that define this place.
