The Onkeljoch in Tyrol opens up a view over a wide, terraced high valley, which stretches from the gentle ridges of the foreground to the rugged, higher rising mountain ranges in the northwest. Several hollows and terrain edges characterize the landscape and create a depth effect that makes the horizon recede far into the distance.

The landscape is a succession of wooded slopes and open alpine pastures, which push into the valley at different inclinations. This alternation between forest and open space determines the character of the region and allows the vastness of the mountain range to take effect.
