The Externsteine rise as striking sandstone rocks from the valley floor, their steep walls reflecting in the calm water of the chain of ponds in front. Gently sloping meadows line the horizon on the banks, backed by dense forest that surrounds the rocks. The place appears unusual due to its unique rock formation and magically attracts the eye. A feeling of grandeur and stillness fills the small hollow.
